This is my third master copy originally done by Mathieu Leyssenne-Ani. I started out creating the background first followed by a line rendering done in illustrator. I then began blocking in color in multiple layers then created a smudge layer to get a metallic look. I went back over the smudge layer with hard brushes again to pull out detail and make it more crisp. After adding the smoke I put a brush metal texture overlay on the robot. The color blending still needs to get a little smoother for a metallic look, which I had a little difficulty with without completely blurring out the colors. I tried different texture adjustments and overlays, maybe I'm just not using the right one?

Great job! Metal is very hard to do. It wouldn't be a matter of blending modes, just more careful blending. If you decide to do your own robot I recommend having a little model and photo reference for lighting reference. I wonder if Sculpey and metallic paint would work.
ReplyDeleteGood job Allison!
ReplyDeletegreat job. the metal looes really well done, good luck with your original
ReplyDeleteAllison ~ Wow! You did a great job on this. Very impressed!
ReplyDeleteThank you guys! My original will be up tomorrow, it's still in process but going well. I went with your idea prof babcock and did a sculpey model with car paint. Works great!
ReplyDeleteYes I have to agree, this is very good! There are some part sin it I like more than the orginal. Though I don't know if the texture you overlayed is necessary...(?)
